I like Me some ME
I have found that apparently there are a few "other" things maybe more important in this world than sports... like Rock of Love 2, Flavor Flav, Butters on South Park, and Peter Griffin. I love my wife Sarah with all my heart. She has helped me enjoy life to its fullest. I am the proud parent of Will Plank (referred to on the air as Willie C) who is going to be the starting fullback at OU in the year 2022. Emma will enter this earth in September and will obviously force me to become a fan of womens sports!
The sad thing about this montage... is we actually won the game. Unforutnately it was one of 4 wins all year in 2003.

To answer a few questions...
1) WHY so upset about someone referring to Mike Gundy as a Clown? Well its simple... I expect more out of Stuart Mandel. To me he is the BEST of the BEST when it comes to college football. To simply refer to a coach as a clown based on one blow-up in a press conference is a bit much. I try to judge teams based on the talent they have and the style they play. If Robert Allen, Bill Haisten, Matt Doyle, or Andrea Cohen came out and said that Gundy was a Clown... I think I would consider it to be worthy of consideration. They spend every minute around this team they possibly can. Bottom line is, I guess I am the only one who really considers this to be a cheap baseless shot. If you don't have faith in Gundy thats one thing. I am not saying you have to go to every press conference to have a take on a coach. If he blew you off in an interview thats fine... I am always the first one to say, "hey I might have alterior motives this guy was a jerk to me,"...but to take a shot from afar comes across as petty and pointless.
2) WHY are you not excited about OSU's week one win? I AM!! BUT, the "we beat a team from a BCS Conference" does not hold a lot of weight with me right now. In 6 months from now it might... WAZU could go 11-1 and be the talk of college football. Same thing from OSU of course (12-0 in that case)... But I've fallen for this before. I've fallen for the "its a different year"... "its a different mentality"... "its a better team" talk. I've been there done that. Maybe you could say learned a few lessons. I'm proud of the way the Pokes played but I did see several things that concerned me in the defensive secondary. Of course if the Pokes continue to get pressure on the quarterabck it might not be that big of a concern. But against teams like Texas Tech, OU, Texas, and of course this week against Houston it WILL be tested. Now that no one will kick anywhere close to Perish Cox or Dez Bryant lets see how this team performs. Plus I did not get to go to OSU media day a month ago so I didn't get the spiked punch that apparently Poplin had.
More from the weekend of football...
Tuesday 09-02-2008 11:25am CT
Ok now that the ENTIRE weekend is in the bag... here are some thoughts.
* Arkansas will get better even though many Hog fans were standing on the ledge after nearly falling to Western Illinois. Michael Smith will make a difference at tailback and hopefully shore up a rushing attack that managed just over 60 yards against a team with the nickname Leathernecks. Smith was suspended before the game. (I know... Petrino suspending someone... shocking)
A QUCK SNAPSHOT OF THE WEEKEND...In top five format of course!!!
* These fan bases need to reel in the excitement from week one blowouts. The level of competition did nothing to prove how improved or how serious of a contender they are in 2008: Penn State (a 66-10 win over Coastal Carolina proves nothing) Arizona (70-0 over Idaho...the Vandals had one win last year) Texas (52-10 over Florida Atlantic... Texas looked tougher, but it was a team called the Owls!!) KU (40-10 over Florida International... still a lot to learn about KU) Miami (52-7 over Charleston Southern... I have 10 buddies who could have joined me to help put up a better fith than the Buccaneers)
* The following fan bases can start burning couches and tumping over cars because they definitely looked like contenders for conference championships... Alabama -- Clemson is the latest example of a team that was overly hyped in the pre-season only to get schooled by a superior SEC opponent. Bama fan could be out of control if they beat Georgia on September 27th. East Carolina -- Skip Holtz with arguably the biggest non conference win for Conference USA USC -- one word... wow, just freaking wow. They dismantled, destroyed, and humiliated Virginia on the Cavs home field... wow. Missouri -- I know they have some questions about the secondary, but if Maclin is healthy the Tigers are better than last year. Don't let the last second touchdown fool you... the Tigers blasted Illinois. UCLA -- yeah i know Tennessee blew it... but the Bruins won a game when the starting quarterback threw FOUR first half interceptions! Huge start for slick Rick.
(((((ON A SIDE NOTE -- I really wanted to add Tulsa to this list... but apparently the homer button was sounded and I have to wait until they beat someone who had a winning record last year)))))
* The following fan bases have serious concerns... in other words its okay to start looking at recruiting and MAYBE EVEN add a fire your coach website. San Diego State -- CAL POLY?? They lost to Cal Poly? Good bye Chuck Long. Louisville -- 2 points against Kentucky and an embarassing performance by the NEW starting quarterback. Not a good start in a make or break year for Coach K. Texas A&M -- They lost to Arkansas... STATE. Four turnovers and an inept offense led to Aggie Fan finding only themselves to kiss. Virginia Tech -- Frank Beamer got beat at his own game as ECU blocked a HUGE Punt to win the game. This was just one game to lead to a horrific start for the ACC... the other big blow up by the ACC... Clemson -- So much for pre-season #9. Clemson may not lose the rest of the way, but what a shocking way to start the season.
Game Balls and Penalty Flags
Monday 09-01-2008 5:00am CT
Game Balls all around for our teams:
OSU taking care of business like it should. They did not allow Washington State to get any momentum and put their foot on the throat of the Cougars and for lack of a better term... choked them out! Dez Bryant is unstoppable.... and Perish Cox provided the special teams spark that we expected. Great all around performance and a perfect way to start the season. If you want to build excitement and sell tickets, that is the type of performance that inspires passion amongst and hungry fan base.
TU new quarterback David Johnson looked like an old pro. You can sense that Johnson has a strong handle on what the staff expects of him and did not make the kind of mistakes that would send up any red flags. Despite some early struggles from the TU defense, overall the Golden Hurricane passed the always difficult task of starting your season with a conference road game.
Oklahoma... what can we really say. Other than the fact that if I was Rodney Allison the Mocs head coach... I would have used the halftime weather delay to quietly sneak out the back door. What did we learn about OU that we didn't already know??? Not much... except that even though you can spend millions on a big scoreboard, you can always find a way to short it out!! Looks like the Sooners won't be tested until October 11th against Texas especially after watching the way Washington struggled against Oregon.
The Story on the Jump... VIDEO below!!
Monday 09-01-2008 2:41am CT
North Carolina was scheduled to receive its game ball via aerial team at about that time in Chapel Hill. According to UNC assistant athletics director for promotions Michael Beale, the plane was in the air, but the jumpers from Virginia-based Aerial Adventures opted to cancel the leap into Kenan Stadium because of a bad weather front -- which eventually delayed both games.
Evidentally, when the clouds eventually opened, the pilot thought they were over the correct stadium, and the skydivers jumped — only realizing when they landed that they were in the wrong place.
The two men immediately scrambled off the field with the game ball, and when UNC associate athletics director Rick Steinbacher was informed by a reporter of what had happened, he immediately called Duke officials to confirm the miscue, and offer his apologies.
"In about five years, maybe this will be funny,'' Steinbacher said. "Right now, I'm just glad no one was hurt."
Wrong Stadium opening ceremony!!

Its 4:43am...
Saturday 08-23-2008 4:54am CT
And I'm really wondering more now than ever before how any human being can actually work REGULAR hours at this time of the day. I mean outside of zero traffic on the road, HOW do you do this?
Okay on to sports... Stole this from BenMaller.com... I don't think I'd really care if she wanted to stalk me: Jessica Simpson has shot down Carrie Underwood's recent remarks that her ex - and Simpson's current flame - NFL star Tony Romo still calls her. And her method for ferreting out the truth might raise a few eyebrows. "Tony and I both laughed at that," Simpson told Nashville radio station 107.5 The River. "We got a chuckle out of it." Underwood, who dated the Dallas Cowboys quarterback in 2007, told Allure magazine in an interview for its September issue that sometimes "the phone will ring and it'll be [Romo], and I'll maybe not answer." Underwood's comments are "definitely" not true, Simpson said. So ... how does she know this? "I looked at his call log." -- NY Daily News
Quick predictions:
Shawn Merriman is going to cause some major distractions Brett Favre will implode Terrelle Pryor will play a LOT for Ohio State Kahlil Bell is going to be a sleeper star in Norm Chows offense
The Big Show Top 5
Thursday 08-21-2008 8:34am CT
Every day leading up to the college football season we are going to debate some of the top storylines heading into the start of the season on Thursday. Day ONE we debated the best coach in college football and Urban Meyer just edged out Bob Stoops. Yesterday we debated the top sleepers for the National Championship from BCS conferences. Auburn picked up 39% of the votes to edge out Texas Tech... and Today we will debate the Top 5 quarterbacks in the Big 12. The hard part is narrowing it down to the top 5 with the incredible amount of depth at the quarterback position in the Big 12. Seven of the starting quarterbacks in the Big 12 could pretty much start anyhwer in the country!! Tod Reesing, Kansas -- The guy wins. Period. He makes plays and limits turnovers Chase Daniel, Missouri -- What else can be said about this guy that hasn't already been said. He is a play maker in a perfect offense. Sam Bradford, Oklahoma -- The Big Easy... The Big Smooth... whatever nickname you want to use it fits. Its amazing to think that last year at this time we did not even know who would be the starting quarterback at OU. Zach Robinson, Oklahoma State -- To me the most underrated quarterback in the Big 12. He makes plays...and as long as OSU minimizes turnovers and fixes some problems with its special teams, Zach Robinson will be a household name sooner rather than later. Josh Freeman, Kansas State -- Maybe the best NFL prospect among the Big 12 quarterbacks. Here is a guy that as a sophomore racked up 3,353 yards of total offense and in two years already ranks fourth in school history in career passing yards. Graham Harrell, Texas Tech -- In an unbelievable offense for quarterbacks and excelling in combination with one of the best recievers int he country... Michael Crabtree. This guy threw for 5,705 yards last year and is just smooth. Colt McCoy, Texas -- The youngest looking of the Big 12 bunch... McCoy is often lost in the shuffle after the Horns struggled last year. Still though, its hard to find a guy that matches his toughness.
And lets not forget about Patrick McGhee at Texas A&M, Cody Hawkins in Colorado, and Joe Ganz at Nebraska. Good luck with this one!!!
And speaking of next Thursday how about the line-up of games...what an incredible line-up of games to carry us from Thursday through Monday. Six games on Thursday night including Oregon State at Stanford, North Carolina State at South Carolina, and Wake Forest at Baylor. Double Header action on Friday night features Temple at Army and for C-USA fans our first look at SMU and June Jones as they battle Rice. The Saturday schedule is highlighted by some of these great match-ups in order of when they kick-off: Virginia Tech at East Carolina Hawaii at Florida Utah at Michigan Oklahoma State at Washington State USC at Virginia Tulsa at UAB Memphis at Ole Miss Michigan State at California ILLINOIS VS. MISSOURI in St. Louis!! Washington at Oregon Alabam at Clemson And to make sure you fall completely into a football coma... Sunday features Colorada and Colorado State and another in-state battle with Louisville vs. Kentucky! Then Monday night a sweet doulbe header with Fresno State and Rutgers squaring off and a big time prime time matc-up for Tennessee and UCLA!!!
